Latest on Speed Reduction Measures - June 2006

The road signage and reactive 30mph signs increasingly appear to have little effect on reducing vehicle speed along Leicester Road. It is not unusual to see cars exceeding 40mph. The Parish Council approached the County Council with a request for a visit from a mobile camera unit.

Before this could happen, a survey of speeds was undertaken along Leicester Road, and on our request on Oakham Road through Halstead. The results showed that 33.2% of drivers were exceeding the speed limit on Leicester Road but over 80% in Halstead.

A mobile camera unit has paid two visits and whilst they were here there was a noticeable reduction in speeding vehicles! We await a report from the Police before considering further action.
